Running Among Vineyards: A Unique Experience in Rioja Alavesa

Registrations are now open for the 2025 edition of the Rioja Alavesa Wine Run, which will take place this year on Sunday, October 26, with an exciting new feature: for the first time, the town of Oyón-Oion will serve as both the start and finish point of this experience that combines sport, scenery, and wine in the heart of the region.

Every year, hundreds of runners come to Rioja Alavesa not only to compete in a sporting event but to enjoy an experience that blends nature, culture, and food and wine in an unparalleled setting. The Wine Run has established itself as a unique event on the calendar by offering something that goes far beyond the stopwatch: the opportunity to run among centuries-old vineyards, surrounded by history and wineries.

What makes this race special is not only its route—which winds through rural paths, vineyard terraces, and panoramic views—but also the atmosphere that can be felt in every kilometer. Along the course, participants pass through some of the region’s most emblematic towns while enjoying an autumn landscape that paints the vineyards in shades of ochre and gold after the harvest.

The race offers two distances—10 and 20 kilometers—designed both for those seeking a challenging test and for those preferring a more accessible distance. Additionally, there is a 10-kilometer popular walk, suitable for all ages, which allows participants to enjoy the route on foot with stops to taste three wines from local wineries. This combination of sport, scenery, and wine is one of the elements that makes the Wine Run a truly unique experience.

The sporting experience is complemented by cultural and gastronomic offerings, including tastings, a wine fair, and winery visits.
