Oyón-Oion Will Host the Rioja Alavesa Wine Run for the First Time

The Rioja Alavesa Wine Run will celebrate its 8th edition on Sunday, October 26, 2025, debuting a new venue: the town of Oyón-Oion, which will host this event for the first time. The race combines sport, wine, gastronomy, and scenery in the south of the Basque Country.

Having previously passed through iconic locations such as Laguardia, Labastida, and, in the last two editions, Elciego, the event continues its journey through the towns of Rioja Alavesa, establishing itself as a traveling race that highlights the region’s diversity. This year, Oyón-Oion will welcome runners, walkers, and visitors, offering a fresh perspective and revealing corners of the area that the race has not explored before.

Surrounded by vineyards and with a strong winemaking tradition, Oyón-Oion blends heritage, identity, and landscape. Its town center—with cobbled streets, stately homes, and landmarks such as the Church of Santa María and the old fountains—provides an authentic setting to experience the Wine Run beyond just the racecourse.

With this new venue, the event aims to continue growing without losing its essence: running among vineyards, enjoying the surroundings, and showcasing the unique character of each Rioja Alavesa town. Oyón-Oion is already preparing to welcome this edition with open arms.
